About the Author
James C. Robertson, MIFireE, received an A.S. in Fire Protection at Oklahoma State University and a B.S. with specialization in Fire Administration from the University of Southern California. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, retiring as Commander. He served as both a career and volunteer firefighter for 15 years. Robertson was an instructor for the University of Maryland’s Fire Service program, as Assistant Fire Chief in Gainesville FL and represented the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) in the Southern and Midwest states. Robertson served as Maryland’s State Fire Marshal for eighteen years.

The prevention of unwanted fires is considered a primary responsibility of the modern fire department, whether career, volunteer, or combination career and volunteer. However, the fire service and others having an 'interest in fire prevention increasingly recognize that other agencies and organizations, such as health departments, schools, private industries, and civic associations, can be of tremendous help in educating the public about this important field of personal safety.
It has long been realized that the term fire prevention should be broadly interpreted to encompass arson suppression, fire safety education including personal reaction in the event of fire, plan review, inspection, and other elements of code enforcement. All of these areas are examined in this text. In addition, methods to measure the effectiveness of local fire prevention programs are addressed in the sixth edition of Introduction to Fire Prevention.
This edition has been updated to reflect current concepts in each of the above-mentioned areas. The major change in building code organizational structure is addressed as is the advent of performance-based codes. The tragic events of September 11, 2001, are noted with comments on lessons learned for code enforcers. Other recent fire tragedies are mentioned as well. Several new evaluation systems for public fire safety education programs are also reviewed. Longstanding research that has ongoing application is retained in the new edition. Chapters have been reorganized to follow a logical sequence and major editorial changes have been made.

Fire Prevention and Safety

I used J.C. Robertson's, Introduction to Fire Prevention, 7th Edition for a senior level fire safety class. There are so many facets covered, the author did a fantastic job packing subjects, definitions, and there relationship to fire prevention. The subjects and sentence structures are understandable and easy to read. This is a great reference book; it covers related prevention - support departments from fire prevention's history, insurance, statistics; and state, federal, and private organizations and agencies, to law enforcement and terrorism. Because the book already has several editions, the grammar and content, readability are tested by students and others interested!

Introduction to Fire Prevention (7th Edition)

I rented this book for a Fire Prevention Course I was in. I cannot comment on the "MyFireKit" because I did not use it. I am not even sure if it was included in the rental.
The book itself is easy to read if you are interested in this field. Most of the chapters are fairly short, but there is still much to be learned from them.
