Sedimentary Deposits And Their Origins.

I acquired this book, Principles of Sedimentary Deposits: Stratigraphy and Sedimentology (Hardcover Edition) by G. M. Friedman. J. E. Sanders and D. C. Kopaska-Merkel, in the early 90s when it first came out. I was teaching a senior-level college course in Sratigraphy at San Diego State University and I wondered if this book might fit my needs for a textbook. Well, it didn't to make the story short, but I managed to get a complimentary copy from the MacMillan Book Company representative, just to look over and try out. It's not a bad book at all, and I wouldn't suggest my non-use is any kind of condemnation. I am a regional stratigrapher and this book is more organized along the lines of sediments and sedimentary deposition. A sedimentologist might find it to be an excellent book. In any case, I couldn't use it as a textbook, but I thought it was an excellent reference book on sedimenentology and I've used it countless times for that purpose. It's nicely written and illustrated, although I find the book to be totally overwhelming and I'd wonder if I could ever get my students to seriously read it. My feelings would be very positive on the book itself. It's a good book for someone interested in sedimentary rocks and their deposition. I might add that I never did find a textbook that ideally fit my needs. Such is life with higher-level geology courses.
